Drawing on Space
Nov 9 - 23, 2024
Hitoto, Osaka
An exhibition by the art collective Koji Shiroshita & Mifuku. This presentation showcases Shiroshita’s “Drawing on Space,” a series of works created using VR equipment as a medium and space as a support, further developed by Mifuku into a VR installation.
Visitors begin in the first room, where they encounter a tableau. They are then guided into a second room, hidden behind a curtain, where they don VR goggles to experience an “immersion” into the tableau they previously observed. Returning to the first room, they revisit the tableau, now imbued with the memory of the three-dimensional drawing experienced in VR. The once-flat image takes on depth and volume, standing out in relief.
This exhibition explores the coexistence of two realms: the material, tangible world of the tableau and the immaterial, conceptual world of VR. These realms are gently delineated by an infrathin membrane, symbolizing their interplay within a shared spatial context.
