Drawing on Space VR Exhibition

Feb 24, 2025

Kyoto Art Center

A VR installation held at the auditorium of Kyoto Art Center.
Koji Shiroshita used a VR headset as his medium and treated space itself as the support for his drawings. Mifuku then augmented these spatial drawings with textures collected from within the Kyoto Art Center grounds, field-recorded environmental sounds, and audio data generated from the sheet music of the school song once sung when the building functioned as an elementary school.

By imposing site-specific physical constraints on drawings originally born as digital data, the project attempted to form a tangible presence as a painting.

When visitors put on the VR headset inside the auditorium—the very site of the exhibition—the previously empty space becomes inhabited by the drawings. Viewers are free to walk through and explore the immersive environment at their own pace.
